The video game field has expanded so much in recent years that it is becoming more and more a part of the media and our culture as a whole. The question is how has their target audience changed along with the evolution of video games? Well it's vastly different, not that anyone needed me to tell them that. It definitely is not attracting the same audience that it was decades ago. The demographics that are being targeted today include soccer moms. Really? I guess it has expanded a lot more than I thought.
So are video games just for kids? Of course not. Originally teenagers would flock to arcades to play their favorite games, but now mom's playing Tetris on her iPhone while cooking dinner. Some of the contributing factors to this expanison include inexpensiveness and accessibility. People can get free games on their mobile device whenever they want. So people can play a game while they're taking the metro to work or when they're waiting for some sort of meeting or appointment. Also people's lives have become a lot more stressful. More and more people are in need of some form of escape. Something that can take them away from reality. So are video games still aimed towards kids? Some games may still be made for children, but the field has also attracted a wider audience. So no, they're not exclusively for chidren anymore.
